    2 Year JD Program for International Lawyers

    The USC Gould School of Law offers a 2 Year JD degree for international lawyers who have earned their first law degree (LL.B. or the equivalent) outside of the United States. The program is highly selective and those admitted will have excellent law school records, good work experience, and strong proficiency in English reading and writing skills. A candidate in the program may be awarded up to 30 units of advanced standing credit which coupled with 2 years of residency coursework allows the student to graduate with a JD degree.

    The deadline for application materials is March 19, 2017, but applicants are encouraged to submit applications well in advance of the deadline because of the rolling admissions process.

    Application Requirements:

    To be eligible for admission, candidates must complete an electronic law school application via LSAC and submit all documents by March 19, 2017. Students will be admitted to this program only for the fall 2017 semester, which commences in August. The application will be available September 15, 2016.

    • USC Gould School of Law application
    • Law School Admission Test (LSAT) – taken no later than February 6, 2017 (Score must be within the 90th percentile or higher)
    • TOEFL Score (minimum score of 100)
    • Undergraduate transcripts (official)
    • Personal Statement (2-3 pages)
    • 2 Letters of Recommendation
    • Interview – By request of the Admissions Committee only

    Program:

    Candidates will take 2 years of coursework in residence. Some first year law courses may be required, but a final determination will not be made until the Registrar evaluates previous coursework. All candidates must have completed an LLB degree by the time he/she commences the law program. No conditional offers of admissions will be extended.

    Financial Aid:

    The tuition and fees for the USC Gould School of Law 2017-2018 JD Program will be posted in the summer of 2017. The 2016-2017 tuition is $59,576 plus the mandatory fees for the academic year. Students should budget $18,000-$25,000 in addition to tuition costs for living expenses, books and school supplies. The law school may consider international candidates for merit-based aid, however it does not offer need-based aid.

    As a non-resident student, you will need an I-20 for a F-1 student visa. Please be prepared to provide the appropriate documentation verifying proof of financial support should you be admitted and choose to enroll at USC Gould. This may include bank statements, affidavits of support if the funds are not in your name, and a copy of the information page of your passport.

    Bar Examination:

    Candidates seeking to practice law in California or any other state must realize there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction.
