The UND College of Business Public Administration requires certain core prerequisite courses or their equivalents be successfully completed prior to full admission to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. If attending on-campus classes is not an option for you, you may choose from several other options, including:

  • Challenge exams exist for all 12 of the MBA prerequisite courses
  • Purchase the textbook(s) for an individual course and study it on your own in order to pass the challenge exam
  • Pass with a 70% or better
  • The challenge exams are free for a pre-MBA student at UND
  • You are allowed one attempt with each exam
  • Exams vary, but are mostly True or False and Multiple Choice questions

*Open enrollment, independent study courses are not eligible for financial aid; however, alternative loans are accepted.

The College-Level Examination Program® or CLEP provides students of any age with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses. There are 2,900 colleges that grant credit and/or advanced standing for CLEP exams.

  • CLEP exams are offered at a national level and consist of multiple choice questions
  • Purchase the textbook(s) for an individual course and study it on your own in order to pass the national CLEP exam
  • Exams are offered at most university testing centers.The cost per exam is approximately $60

  • Principles of Microeconomics CLEP exam for Econ 201
  • Principles of Macroeconomics CLEP exam for Econ 202
  • Information Systems and Computer Applications CLEP exam for ISYS 317
  • Principles of Management CLEP exam for Mgmt 300
  • Principles of Marketing CLEP exam for Mrkt 305
  • Calculus CLEP exam for Math 146

MBA Prerequisite Courses That Do Not Have Acceptable CLEP Exams

  • Mgmt 301

4. Complete Courses at Any Regionally Accredited Institution

You may take courses from a regionally accredited institution of higher education at a location near you. Prior to taking courses from another institution, you should check with your academic advisor to make sure the credits will transfer and apply to your degree program.
